Tummy Tuck Surgery

Abdominoplasty Surgery

Abdominoplasty, also knowns as a tummy tuck, is a very common and popular procedure not only in Newport Beach, Orange County, CA but throughout the United States. Board-Certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John Park, finds that the tummy tuck procedure is a popular choice for women who have either loose or hanging skin, excess fat and/or weakened abdominal muscles due to aging, pregnancy or weight loss.

The tummy tuck procedure helps women achieve desired results that are sometimes not attainable through diet and exercise alone or even with the help of liposuction, although liposuction is often performed in conjunction with the tummy tuck. By design, the tummy tuck firms and tones the abdomen by removing excess fat and loose skin from the abdomen and by tightening the abdominal muscle wall.

“I cannot express enough how amazing Dr. Park is! He is a true artist. My tummy tuck was a complete success! The procedure changed my life. And I couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Types of Tummy Tuck Procedures

Dr. John Park performs two different types of tummy tuck procedures – a mini-tummy tuck and a full tummy tuck, depending on the location and severity of the loose skin. Typically, if the loose skin is on the lower part of the abdomen or below the belly button, a mini-tummy tuck might be preferred. However, if there is sagging of skin and loose abdominal muscles both above and below the navel, then it may require a full tummy tuck.

Full Tummy Tuck

The full tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is standard for most women. It is particularly great for women who are done with pregnancies and desire exceptional results of not only a flattened and toned abdomen, but also a sculpted waistline. In this procedure, Dr. Park makes an incision just above the pubic bone and around the naval. He removes the loose abdominal skin and underlying fat, and tightens the abdominal muscles that may have been weakened due to pregnancy or weight gain. Liposuction is often done on the sides of the abdomen and along the flanks in order to achieve a well-defined waistline apparent from the front, back, and side profiles.

Mini-Tummy Tuck

In the mini-tummy tuck, a usually smaller incision is made just above the pubic bone. The loose skin below the navel is removed and in many cases the lower abdominal muscles are tightened, resulting in a slimmer, toned lower abdomen.

Abdominoplasty is one of the main procedures performed as part of the popular set of procedures known as the “mommy makeover.” A tummy tuck combined with liposuction and breast augmentation (or breast lift) create the mommy makeover package. Abdominoplasty is one of the main procedures that mothers desire in order to get their “pre-pregnancy bodies back.”

Tummy Tuck Candidates, Recovery, and What To Expect

Depending on your overall desired outcome, Dr. John Park will help to determine which procedure or procedures would be appropriate for you. The recovery process is dependent on whether you have elected to have a full- vs. mini- tummy tuck. Depending on the full extent of the surgical procedure, you may opt to spend the night in the hospital for one or two nights. The first week following the tummy tuck you may have trouble standing in a full upright position, and this is due to the tightening of the skin. Over time, your body will begin to heal and loosen up a bit, allowing you to walk in a full upright position by two weeks. Dr. Park sees most patients returning to work and engaging in minimal activity within two weeks of the procedure. Patients should wear a compression garment to help with swelling and bruising. Finally, in about four to six weeks, patients can usually resume their normal daily activity.
