21 Feb Maximize Your Tummy Tuck Results
A tummy tuck is the best surgical option for getting a flat, taut tummy. At John Park MD Plastic Surgery, Dr. John Park and the entire team support patients throughout the procedure—including after-care. In addition to regular follow-up appointments so Dr. Park can monitor your recovery progress, there are a few ways you can also maximize your results at home:
1. Follow recovery directions. Everyone’s recovery instructions will be slightly different. However, every tummy tuck requires plenty of rest. This will optimize healing and get you back to your daily activities faster. It can be frustrating to have limited mobility post-surgery (especially for moms recovering from a mommy makeover), but it’s the best thing you can do for a fast, healthy recovery.
2. Wear compression garments regularly if they are recommended. Compression garments for a tummy tuck look similar to a “girdle” or another shaping garment. They are often recommended to help support the abdominal muscles and fascia after surgery, which are tightened during a tummy tuck. They also help minimize bruising and hold stitches together better.
3. Eat a healthy diet. Your diet fuels your body, and a post-surgery body needs as much help as possible. Your medical team can recommend a recovery diet that is healthy, wholesome, and doesn’t risk thinning the blood (for example, oily fish has elements that can thin blood).
4. Have a support network in place. It’s important to secure a support network at home, in addition to your surgical team, before your surgery. Everyone recovers from surgery a little differently, and it’s impossible to be completely certain about how much help you’ll need. For the first 72 hours at home, it’s a good idea to have at least one person who can stay with you.
