Chin Surgery

John Park MD Plastic Surgery | Newport Beach, Irvine, Orange County, California

Our profile view can often times be something that we become unhappy with. Many people feel that they have a “weak” looking chin, or that it protrudes too much, creating an unbalanced look to their face. Chin surgery, or mentoplasty, is surgery to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant (Chin Augmentation) or reduction of the chin bone (Chin Reduction). If you feel your chin is too big or too small, or if you are not happy with the shape of your chin, chin surgery can help restore balance and structure to your face.

Chin Surgery

If Dr. John Park believes a chin implant will help improve your look and get you the desired results you are looking for, then usually a soft silicone rubber type implant will be placed through an incision in the lower lip or chin. This implant is then usually anchored to the jawbone with small wires and usually screws to ensure that it remains stable. Chin implants come in all shapes and sizes and will be discussed at the time of your consultation.

In chin reduction surgery, incisions are made either in the mouth or under the chin. The bone is then sculpted to a more pleasing size and shape before closing the incision.

Chin Surgery Recovery

Dr. Park sees that most of his chin implant patients resume normal activity in about five days. Swelling and numbness to the area may occur during the recovery period. In addition, your lower lip may feel somewhat stiff or taut for some time.
