Am I A Candidate For Abdominoplasty?

Abdominoplasty, also called a tummy tuck, is a body contouring procedure that can give you a flat, taut tummy. However, just as with anything in life, there are some criteria (or requirements shall we say) that you should meet to be considered a good candidate for abdominoplasty at John Park MD Plastic Surgery. Here are four things to keep in mind when determining your candidacy.

You Are At Or Close To Your Ideal Weight

Abdominoplasty is not meant to be a weight loss measure, but rather a tool to complete your weight loss journey. You should be at or close to your goal weight and not plan on losing any more significant weight. Any future weight loss that results in excess skin can affect your abdominoplasty results.

Your Issue Is Excess Skin Not Fat

Although abdominoplasty will remove some fat, it is a procedure primarily for eliminating excess loose skin and repairing weakened abdominal muscles. If fat is your primary concern or if you have a large quantity of fat and skin to be removed, you should consider pairing your abdominoplasty with liposuction. Liposuction is better suited for fat removal and can achieve optimal results when combined with abdominoplasty.

You Are In Good Overall Health

Abdominoplasty is surgery, and it requires anesthesia and a full recovery. In order to even be considered a candidate, you must be in good general health. You will need to be medically cleared by your general physician and Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. John Park for surgery to ensure you do not have any underlying health conditions such as heart disease or an autoimmune disease that could pose a risk during and after your surgery.

You Are Finished Having Children

Having abdominoplasty won’t prevent you from being able to have future children nor will it affect the health of your baby; however, the ideal time to undergo a tummy tuck is after you are finished having kids. Future pregnancies, similar to future weight gain, can affect your results. If you do plan to have children in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. Park before surgery.
